On line and print versions of Autism Spectrum Disorders: Missouri Best Practice Guidelines for Screening, Diagnosis, and Assessment are now available to Missouri clinicians, educators, service providers and families. The Blue Ribbon Panel on Autism shaped the Missouri Guidelines, creating the state’s first best practice recommendations for ASD screening, diagnosis and assessment. Representatives from the Thompson Foundation for Autism in conjunction with the State of Missouri Division of Developmental Disabilities collaborated on the year-long project. Thompson Center Academic Director Janet Farmer and Associate Center Director Steven Kanne were members of the Project Leadership Team.
The Missouri Guidelines will enhance communication among professionals involved in ASD screening. Also, the best practices were designed to improve and expand the referral network for health care professionals and others; ultimately leading to earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment for those affected by ASD.
