Occupational Therapy Clinic

Occupational therapists provide a comprehensive evaluation and formal report with recommendation and development of interventions to promote development or restore function in daily living skills, community, school or home. Services include:

  • Formal evaluation: fine/gross motor skill development, visual motor/visual perceptual skills, handwriting, activity participation, sensory processing and self-help skills
  • Individual or group therapy: targeted therapy addressing specific areas of concern. Designation of group or individual therapy is based on the client's needs.
  • Consultation: prevision of support or suggestions to families or other interested parties for children or adults who have been evaluated or are receiving treatment

 

Speech and Language Clinic

The Speech and Language Clinic at the Thompson Center provides evaluation and treatment services for children with a variety of communication disorders. Services include:

  • Team-based diagnostic evaluations
  • Speech-language only evaluation
  • Individual or group therapy sessions

 

Intervention Services Division

The Intervention Services Division offers individualized behavioral treatments both in the clinical setting and in the community for individuals between the ages of 18 months and 22 years who have a diagnosis of an autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), neurodevelopmental disorder, or other health condition that affects development and may result in concerns in the areas of language & communication, social skills, play skills, self-help skills including toileting, or problem behaviors including difficulty following directions, repetitive behaviors, self-injury, and mild aggression. Services include:

  • Behavioral assessment
  • Development of individualized treatment plan
  • Training of parents/caregivers to implement treatment plan
  • Follow-up to monitor and adjust treatment plan

ABA therapy focuses on behavioral intervention, problem behavior reduction, skill acquisition and toilet training, ages 18 months - 22 yrs.

Leaps Ahead focuses on participating in group activities, managing challenging situations, building social skills and directing language towards peers, ages 4-10 yrs.

School consult focuses on behavioral intervention, problem behavior reduction, skill acquisition and toilet training.

Family Resources Services

Family Resource Specialists partner with families to identify child and family needs and link them to information and resources. Eligibility criteria for care coordination includes families of children who are 1) insured through Missouri Care Health Plan and who have a health, developmental, emotional or behavioral condition that is expected to last more than 12 months; 2) have an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis; or 3) are on the Thompson Center wait list for evaluation due to a question of autism. Care coordination activities include:

  • Partner with families to identify family social, educational and health care needs.
  • Partner with families to develop an individualized plan of care.
  • Assist families in navigating systems of care to meet these needs.
  • Link families to the information and resources to address the issues and goals they have identified as most important.
  • Follow up to monitor progress towards family and child goals.

 

Individual and Family Therapy

The Individual and Family Therapy service provides outpatient psychotherapy and consultation services for children, adolescents, adults, and families with autism spectrum disorders, other neurodevelopmental disorders or chronic health conditions. These services are individualized to meet the needs of each family and may include individual sessions, parent sessions, family sessions, and larger group sessions. Services focus on addressing psychological or behavioral concerns, including:

  • Emotional and behavioral functioning
  • Social engagement and family functioning
  • Adjustment to medical, developmental or health condition
