Plan for Developmental Intervention
The Plan for Developmental Intervention (PDI) services offered by the Thompson Center provide a short-term clinic-based service for young children (ages 18 months through 8 years) that includes developmental assessments of skills and functional assessments of problem behaviors, along with short-term consultation and training for caregivers, including the development of an intervention plan.
Individual Served
- Children between the ages of 18 months and 8 years
- Children who have a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other neurodevelopmental disorder
- Children who have behavioral, developmental and/or communication needs that limit access to natural environments
Typical services provided
- Assess skills and evaluate specific skill deficits (including behavioral, communication, adaptive, etc.)
- Assesses and identify function(s) of mild problem behavior
- Develop an initial intervention plan for acquiring specific skills and reducing problem behaviors
- Provide training and short-term consultation and follow up for parents and other care providers
- This service can serve as a bridge between diagnosis and entry into community based intervention (EIBI), if applicable

- Procedures based on Applied Behavior Analysis and Positive Behavior Support
- Comprehensive interview
- Extensive initial evaluation and recommendations
- Approximately 10 hours of clinic-based follow up sessions including training for caregivers for the child’s intervention plan and strategies, and ongoing data analysis and consultation to monitor and adjust intervention efforts
- Additional follow up sessions may be arranged
