Individual and Family Therapy

The Individual and Family Therapy service at the Thompson Center provides outpatient psychotherapy and consultation services for children, adolescents, adults, and families with autism spectrum disorders, other neurodevelopmental disorders or chronic health conditions. These services are individualized to meet the needs of each family and may include individual sessions, parent sessions, family sessions, and larger group sessions.

Typical services provided

The focus of these services is on addressing psychological or behavioral concerns, including:

Emotional and Behavioral Functioning

  • Depression
  • Mood problems
  • Anxiety
  • Obsessive or compulsive behaviors
  • Behavior problems
  • Impulsivity
  • Noncompliance
  • Anger

Social Engagement and Family Functioning

  • Social concerns
  • Relationship problems
  • Family stress and conflict
  • Sibling or family adjustment

Adjustment to medical, developmental or health condition

  • Body image
  • Adherence to medical regimens
  • Anxiety regarding medical procedures
  • Pain management
