Individual, Family and Group Therapy

The Individual, Family, and Group Therapy service at the Thompson Center provides outpatient psychotherapy and consultation services for children, adolescents, adults, and families with autism spectrum disorders, other neurodevelopmental disorders or chronic health conditions. These services are individualized to meet the needs of each family and may include individual sessions, parent sessions, family sessions, and larger group sessions.

Individual needs typically addressed

The focus of these services is on addressing psychological or behavioral concerns, including:

Emotional and Behavioral Functioning
  • Depression and mood problems
  • Anxiety
  • Obesessive or compulsive behaviors
  • Behavior problems
  • Impulsivity
  • Noncompliance
  • Anger
Social Engagement and Functioning Difficulties with adjustment to medical, developmental or health condition
  • Body image
  • Social concerns
  • Adherence to medical regimines
  • Anxiety regarding medical procedures, or
  • Management of procedure or disease related pain
Family or sibling adjustment issues
  • Family stress and conflict

  • Enhancing parent behavior management
  • Enhancing parent-child communication and problem-solving
