Support

An $8.5 million gift from MU alumni William and Nancy Thompson launched the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders in April 2005. This gift has endowed two faculty chair positions and provided funds for other startup activities.

"Our charge to MU is to make a difference in the study of autism - make a difference for the children with autism today, make a difference for their families and make a difference for the future, so that when a child is diagnosed with autism, his or her family has well-founded hope," said William Thompson.

The Thompson Center has the potential to expand research efforts, academic opportunities and outreach capabilities to serve children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Private philanthropy will lead the university toward national prominence in the developmental sciences. More importantly, the Thompson Center will improve the lives of children and families in Missouri and the nation.

To realize this ambitious goal, the university is seeking private support in four major areas:

  • Programs for both children and families;
  • Student scholarships and fellowships;
  • Faculty endowed chairs and professorships;
  • Facilities proposed Child and Family Sciences Institute.

We invite you to share our vision of service, research, and teaching and join us in making a difference.
