Self-Determined Transition Readiness Through Individual Vocational Experiences (STRIVE)

STRIVE is a post-secondary education program offering two semesters of non-credit employment skills development at the University of Missouri for 18- to 30-year-olds with autism or a similar diagnosis.

Thanks to generous private and public support, the $8,000 program cost per student is reduced to only $3,000. With that investment, STRIVE participants will receive 300 hours of skill instruction, 60 hours of mentorship and up to 300 hours of work experience during the 10-month program. Some financial assistance is available by completing this application.

This year has brought unexpected challenges and changes that have required us to adapt to a new way of life. As always, the health and safety of STRIVE participants, staff, and the MU community is our number one priority. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s STRIVE program will be modified in order to adhere to current safety measures and social distancing guidelines.

STRIVE participants will receive more 1:1 direct instruction with STRIVE staff. Group meetings with participants via Zoom will also be utilized. Job shadow and paid experience will be modified as many job sites are only allowing essential workers to enter buildings and drastically limiting intern/student worker positions.

As things continue to evolve over the next several months, STRIVE staff will make updates and changes as necessary. We appreciate your patience and support as we all navigate this new “normal.”
